"Meet"
a few of the *children that are currently waiting for a special friend
like you. Because we receive more referrals than we have
volunteers, some of our "littles" wait as much as 2 years to be matched.
They need our friendship today.
If not now, when?
*Names
have been changed. The pictures and stories are not connected to each
other in order to protect the confidentiality of each child.
Our School Based waiting little this month is Joey. Joey lives with his mom and his step-dad. Joey doesn’t get along well with his step-dad. He says that his step-dad encourages him to fight with other kids. He also says that he is a “drunk”. Joey doesn’t have a relationship with his biological father. He says that he is mean. Joey has several brothers and sisters who have all been taken out of his home and he feels that his dad is the reason they are gone. He is 9 years old and he likes to play board games and basketball. He probably likes a lot of other things, but he has never been exposed to a lot of things. He says that he plays by himself a lot. Joey does have some behavioral problems at school, but says that he would “straighten up” for his Big Brother. He would like a Big Brother who is funny and can help him with his school work, and play basketball and board games with him.
**We have over 60 kids currently waiting for a Big in our School Based Mentoring program. If you think you could share one hour a week with a child, at school, we encourage you to call us today.
Our Community Based waiting little this month is Barry. He lives with his mom and his sisters. He is also very close to his grandmother and some great aunts, but he has few male role models. The men who have passed in and out of his life up to this point have not been reliable and none of them have stuck around long enough for him to really learn from them. He is 10 years old and he likes some sports, board games, going to the mall, watching movies. He probably likes a lot of other things too, but he has never been exposed to a whole lot of things. He does pretty well in school and he does not get in trouble. His mom hopes that he could have a Big Brother who would be consistent and someone that Barry could really count on. The family is open to either a Big Brother or a Big Couple who is willing to be patient as he develops trust in them.
**We have almost 50 kids currently waiting for a Big. If you think you could share some of your free time with a child, we encourage you to call us today. If you are married for over a year or have a family, feel free to include them!
