School Based Mentoring

Volunteers spend ONE (1) hour a week with the same child for the duration of the school year.   This program was created to reach out to more children and to target/utilize volunteers that are unable to have enough flexibility to participate in the Community Based Program.   The children are referred by their teacher, counselor or principal who feel that they could use a positive role model in their life.

We are currently serving the following schools:

Cabell County Schools

Wayne County Schools

Boyd County Schools

Greenup County Schools

Peer Mentoring

After School Program

Each Big and Little will determine how to best spend their hour each week.  A portion of the visit is spent on academics.  Volunteers can also eat lunch, play games, make crafts, read books, etc. with their Little Brother or Sister.  The Mentor and their Little are only allowed contact at school.  Volunteers have the option of expanding their role and entering the Community Based Program, but only after completing a more in depth screening process and obtaining permission from the parent.
